Hasan bin Muhammad says that I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) about the incident of the stoning of Sayyiduna Ma'iz: so he said, "Nephew, I know the most about this hadith because I was among those people who stoned him. When we started stoning him and he felt its pain, he began to say, 'People, take me back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); my people have killed me and deceived me, saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will not kill you in any case.' But we did not stop until we finished him. When we returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we told him what he had said. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Why did you not leave him and bring him to me?' In fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to investigate the matter further."
