Hadith 14970

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), an Ansari man whose name is mentioned freed his slave, whose name was Yaqub, saying, "After my death, you are free," and he had no other wealth besides him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of his destitute condition, he said, "Who will buy this slave from me?" Na'eem bin Abdullah bought him for eight hundred dirhams. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him that money and said, "When any of you is in difficulty, he should begin charity with himself; if anything remains, then on his children, then on his close relatives, and then spend on those to his right and left."
