Hadith 14963

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ غُلَامٌ ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، فَانْطَلَقَ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَسَأَلُوهُ ، فَقَالَ : " سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي ، وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنِّي بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a child was born to an Ansari, and he wanted to name him Muhammad. So we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Name yourselves after me, but do not take my kunyah (patronymic), because I have been sent among you as a distributor."
