It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the Battle of Ahzab, an arrow struck the vein in the arm of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cauterized it with a broad-headed arrow using his blessed hand. It swelled, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cauterized it again. This happened three times, and his blood began to flow. Seeing this, he prayed, “O Allah, do not seize my soul until my eyes are cooled regarding Banu Qurayza.” Thus, his blood stopped, and not a single drop fell until the people of Banu Qurayza came down to accept the decision of Sayyiduna Sa’d. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for him, and he decided that their men should be killed and their women and children should be spared so that the Muslims could benefit from them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “You have judged concerning them with Allah’s judgment.” Their number was four hundred individuals. When the killing was completed, blood began to flow from his vein, and he passed away.
