It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a paper before his passing so that he could dictate a writing after which people would not go astray, but Sayyiduna Umar held a different opinion regarding this until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left it.
