(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ فَتَّانِي الْقَبْرِ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةَ تُبْتَلَى فِي قُبُورِهَا ، فَإِذَا أُدْخِلَ الْمُؤْمِنُ قَبْرَهُ ، وَتَوَلَّى عَنْهُ أَصْحَابُهُ ، جَاءَ مَلَكٌ شَدِيدُ الِانْتِهَارِ ، فَيَقُولُ لَهُ : مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ ، فَيَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ : أَقُولُ إِنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُهُ ، فَيَقُولُ لَهُ الْمَلَكُ : انْظُرْ إِلَى مَقْعَدِكَ الَّذِي كَانَ لَكَ فِي النَّارِ ، قَدْ أَنْجَاكَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ ، وَأَبْدَلَكَ بِمَقْعَدِكَ الَّذِي تَرَى مِنَ النَّارِ مَقْعَدَكَ الَّذِي تَرَى مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَيَرَاهُمَا كِلَاهُمَا ، فَيَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ : دَعُونِي أُبَشِّرْ أَهْلِي ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُ : اسْكُنْ ، وَأَمَّا الْمُنَافِقُ ، فَيُقْعَدُ إِذَا تَوَلَّى عَنْهُ أَهْلُهُ ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُ : مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ ، فَيَقُولُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، أَقُولُ مَا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُ : لَا دَرَيْتَ ، هَذَا مَقْعَدُكَ الَّذِي كَانَ لَكَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ ، قَدْ أُبْدِلْتَ مَكَانَهُ مَقْعَدَكَ مِنَ النَّارِ " ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ : فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ عَلَى مَا مَاتَ الْمُؤْمِنُ عَلَى إِيمَانِهِ ، وَالْمُنَافِقُ عَلَى نِفَاقِهِ " .
Abu Zubair asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) about the two angels who test in the grave. He replied that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: This Ummah will be tested in its graves. So when a believer is placed in the grave and his companions turn away and leave, an angel comes whose rebuke is very severe. He asks the deceased: What did you use to say about this man? He replies: I used to say that he was Allah’s Messenger and His servant. The angel says: Look at your place which was prepared for you in Hell; Allah has saved you from it and, in exchange for that place in Hell, He has granted you this place in Paradise which you are now seeing. He sees both of these places. Upon hearing this, the Muslim says: Allow me to go and give glad tidings to my family. He is told: Remain here in peace. And if the deceased is a hypocrite, when his family turns away and leaves, he is made to sit up and is asked: What did you use to say about this man? He replies: I do not know; I used to say what others said. He is told: You did not know. This was not your place in Paradise, but now Allah has replaced it with this place in Hell for you. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Every person will be raised in the state in which he died; the believer upon his faith and the hypocrite upon his hypocrisy.
