It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you see the moon, then begin fasting, and if the sky is cloudy on any day, then complete the count of thirty days. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had separated himself from his noble wives for a month. After twenty-nine nights had passed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came down and said that sometimes a month is also of twenty-nine days.
