It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: If I remain alive, then insha’Allah I will strictly forbid people from naming (their children) Barakah, Yasaar, and Nafi’. Now I do not remember whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also mentioned the name Rafi’ or not. And the reason he stated was that someone asks another, “Is Barakah (blessing) here?” and he replies, “No.” Someone asks, “Is Yasaar (ease) here?” and he replies, “No.” But before this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. Then Sayyiduna Umar intended to strictly prohibit this, but then he abandoned it.
