It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Eid al-Fitr, I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He led the prayer before the sermon without any adhan or iqamah. After the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up leaning on the hand of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) and delivered the sermon. He praised Allah, admonished and advised the people, and encouraged them to obey Allah. Then, taking Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) with him, he went towards the women, praised Allah there as well, admonished and advised them, and encouraged them to obey Allah. He said: "Give charity, for most of you are the fuel of Hell." A woman with sunken cheeks from the lower ranks asked the reason for this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Because you complain a lot and are very ungrateful to your husbands." Upon hearing this, the women began to take off their jewelry, necklaces, earrings, and rings, and started putting them in the cloth of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him).
