Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, says that a man came to Sayyiduna Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him, and said, "Should I not finish off Ali?" He replied, "How can you kill him?" The man said, "Then will you go to him and dispute with him regarding the matter of the caliphate?" He replied, "That too is not possible, because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Faith has shackled the feet of dispute, therefore a believer is not quarrelsome.'"
