Hadith 14301

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "If wealth comes from Bahrain, I will give you this much, and this much, and this much." After the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when wealth came from Bahrain, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had it announced that whoever has any debt upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or to whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had promised to give something, should come to us. So I presented myself before him and said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said to me, 'If wealth comes from Bahrain, I will give you this much, this much, and this much.'" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Take it," so I took the wealth from him. Some of those who heard said that when I counted it, it was five hundred dirhams, which I took. Then I came to him again three times, but he did not give me anything. The third time I said to him, "Either you give me, or I will think that you are being stingy towards me." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Are you accusing me of stinginess? What disease can be worse than stinginess? When you first requested from me, I had already intended at that very moment to give you."
