Hadith 1429

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ : عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَأَنْ يَأْخُذَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَحْبُلَهُ ، فَيَأْتِيَ الْجَبَلَ فَيَجِيءَ بِحُزْمَةٍ مِنْ حَطَبٍ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ فَيَبِيعَهَا ، فَيَسْتَغْنِيَ بِثَمَنِهَا ، خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ ، أَعْطَوْهُ أَوْ مَنَعُوهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is better for a person to pick up his rope, gather firewood with it, bring it to the market, place it there, and sell it, thereby attaining self-sufficiency and spending on himself, rather than going around asking people, whether they give him or not."
