Hadith 14209

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ . ح وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا : لَا إِلَه إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، فَإِذَا قَالُوهَا ، عَصَمُوا مِنِّي بِهَا دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا ، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُذَكِّرٌ لَسْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمُسَيْطِرٍ سورة الغاشية آية 21 - 22 .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they recite «لا اله الا الله». When they do this, they have protected their lives and property from me, except for the right of Islam, and their reckoning is with Allah." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "You should admonish, for your duty is only to admonish, but you are not a taskmaster over them."
