Hadith 14205

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell from a horse and landed on a branch or trunk of a date-palm, and sprained his foot. We went to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to inquire about his health, and there we saw him leading the prayer. We also joined in and prayed standing. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Imam is appointed only so that he may be followed, so when he prays standing, you should also pray standing; if he prays sitting, you should also pray sitting. If he is sitting, then do not remain standing, as the people of Persia do with their chiefs and elders.
