Hadith 1407

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَأَنْ يَحْمِلَ الرَّجُلُ حَبْلًا فَيَحْتَطِبَ ، ثُمَّ يَجِيءَ فَيَضَعَهُ فِي السُّوقِ فَيَبِيعَهُ ، ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْنِيَ بِهِ ، فَيُنْفِقَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ ، خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ ، أَعْطَوْهُ أَوْ مَنَعُوهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is better for a person to pick up his rope, gather firewood with it, bring it to the market, place it there, and sell it, thereby attaining self-sufficiency and spending on himself, than to go around asking people, whether they give him or not."
