(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ صَارَ كَالْفَرْخِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " هَلْ سَأَلْتَ اللَّهَ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : اللَّهُمَّ مَا كُنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي بِهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ ، فَعَجِّلْهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا طَاقَةَ لَكَ بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ ، هَلَّا قُلْتَ : " اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ، وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً ، وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit a sick Muslim. He had become like a chick. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Did you used to supplicate for anything?" He replied, "Yes! I used to supplicate: O Allah! Whatever punishment You have destined for me in the Hereafter, give it to me in this world." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Subhan Allah! You do not have the strength or ability for that. Why did you not supplicate: O Allah! Grant me goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of Hell."
