(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يُصَلِّي نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ، فَنَزَلَتْ : قَدْ نَرَى تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ سورة البقرة آية 144 ، فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سَلَمَةَ وَهُمْ رُكُوعٌ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ ، وَقَدْ صَلَّوْا رَكْعَةً ، فَنَادَى : أَلَا إِنَّ الْقِبْلَةَ قَدْ حُوِّلَتْ ، أَلَا إِنَّ الْقِبْلَةَ قَدْ حُوِّلَتْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَة ، قَالَ : فَمَالُوا كَمَا هُمْ نَحْوَ الْقِبْلَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (in the beginning in Madinah Munawwarah) used to pray facing Bayt al-Maqdis, then later this verse was revealed: "We see your face turning repeatedly towards the sky; soon We shall turn you to a Qiblah which you will like, so now turn your face towards Masjid al-Haram." After the revelation of this verse, a man passed by Banu Salamah while they were offering the Fajr prayer and had only performed one rak'ah, when this person announced that the Qiblah had been changed and the Ka'bah had been appointed as the new direction. So, they turned towards the Qiblah while still in the state of prayer.
