Hadith 13596

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا ، قَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، يَا خَيْرَنَا وَابْنَ خَيْرِنَا ، وَيَا سَيِّدَنَا وَابْنَ سَيِّدِنَا . فَقَالَ " قُولُوا بِقَوْلِكُمْ ، وَلَا يَسْتَجِرَّكُمْ الشَّيْطَانُ أَوْ : الشَّيَاطِينُ ، قَالَ إِحْدَى الْكَلِمَتَيْنِ ، أَنَا مُحَمَّدُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ ، مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ تَرْفَعُونِي فَوْقَ مَنْزِلَتِي الَّتِي أَنْزَلَنِي اللَّهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man addressed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! O our chief, son of our chief! O our best, son of our best!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O people! Make piety obligatory upon yourselves, lest Satan attack you. I am only Muhammad bin Abdullah, Allah's servant and His messenger. By Allah! I do not like that you exaggerate my status beyond what it is with Allah."
