Hadith 13361

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ طَهْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، قَالَ : كَانَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ تَفْخَرُ عَلَى نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، تَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَنْكَحَنِي مِنَ السَّمَاءِ ، وَأَطْعَمَ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَئِذٍ خُبْزًا وَلَحْمًا ، وَكَانَ الْقَوْمُ جُلُوسًا كَمَا هُمْ فِي الْبَيْتِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَخَرَجَ ، فَلَبِثَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَلْبَثَ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ وَالْقَوْمُ جُلُوسٌ كَمَا هُمْ ، فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعُرِفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْحِجَابِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), taking pride over the other noble wives, used to say that Allah married me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the heavens. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) served bread and meat at her wedding feast. Some people, after eating, remained seated in the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and left. After waiting for a while, he returned, but the people were still sitting. This was very displeasing to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and its signs appeared on his blessed face. On this occasion, the verse of hijab was revealed.
