(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا
هَاشِمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا
شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ
قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ
أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ : قَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْكِتَابِ يُسَلِّمُونَ عَلَيْنَا ، فَكَيْفَ نَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ ؟ قَالَ : قُولُوا : وَعَلَيْكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this issue: The People of the Book greet us with Salam, what should we reply to them? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Just say "Wa Alaikum" in response.
