Hadith 13058

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْحَدَّادُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعَلَّى بْنُ جَابِرٍ يَعْنِي اللَّقِيطِيَّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ إِذَا قَامَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَأَذَّنَ صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ فِي مَسْجِدٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، قَامَ مَنْ شَاءَ فَصَلَّى حَتَّى تُقَامَ الصَّلَاةُ ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ ، وَذَلِكَ بِعَيْنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the muezzin would stand and give the call to Maghrib prayer in the Prophet's Mosque, then after that, whoever wished would perform two rak'ahs until the congregational prayer was established, and whoever wished would perform two rak'ahs and then sit down, and all of this would happen in front of the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
