It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed some things. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! The people of Suffa were more deserving of these than those who received them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are free to question me in an inappropriate manner or to consider me miserly, whereas I am not miserly."
(Benefit: The meaning is that if I did not give anything to the people of Suffa, it was not because I kept something back for myself, and if I gave to others, it was because I considered their needs.)
