Hadith 12438

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that in Madinah Munawwarah, Hazrat Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) was the wealthiest among the Ansar, and among all his wealth, the garden named Bairuha, which was in front of the mosque and where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also go and drink its excellent water, was the most beloved to him. When this verse was revealed: "You will not attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love," Hazrat Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself in the court of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Allah Almighty says this, and among all my wealth, 'Bairuha' is the most beloved to me. I give it in charity for the sake of Allah and hope for its reward and goodness from Allah. O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Spend it wherever you deem appropriate." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Wonderful! This is a profitable wealth, this is a profitable wealth. I have heard what you said. My opinion is that you distribute it among your close relatives." Hazrat Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I will do so." Then he distributed that garden among his close relatives and paternal cousins.
