Hadith 12099

Mukhtar bin Nawfal (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) about the ruling on drinking from vessels. He replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "muzaffat" and said that every intoxicating thing is forbidden. I asked, what is meant by muzaffat? He said, a vessel coated with pitch. I asked, what is the ruling on glass and bottles? He said, there is no harm in either of them. I said, but people do not consider them good? He said, then leave that thing about which you have doubt and choose that thing about which you have no doubt, because every intoxicating thing is forbidden. I said, you have spoken the truth that intoxication is forbidden, but what is the ruling on taking a sip or two after eating? He said, an intoxicating thing, whether little or much, is forbidden. And he said that wine is made from grapes, dates, honey, wheat, barley, and corn; whatever it is made from, it is, in any case, wine.
