Hadith 12028

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Abu Talha's (may Allah be pleased with him) son was ill. Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to the mosque, and in his absence, his son passed away. His wife, Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), covered him with a cloth and told the household not to inform Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) of his son's death. When Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, some of his friends from the mosque came with him. Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) inquired about the child, and they replied that he was better than before. Then dinner was brought before them, and everyone ate. After the guests left, she busied herself with the tasks women usually do. When the last part of the night arrived, she said to Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), "O Abu Talha! Consider this: some people borrowed something for a while and benefited from it, but when it was demanded back, they showed displeasure." Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "They are not being fair." Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Then your son was also a trust from Allah, which Allah has taken back." Upon this, he said «انا لله وانا اليه راجعون» and thanked Allah.

In the morning, they went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), seeing them, said, "May Allah bless you both in this night." Thus, she became pregnant. When the child was born, it was nighttime. She did not consider it appropriate to give the child tahneek at that time and wished that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself would do it. So in the morning, I took the child along with some Ajwa dates to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was applying tar to his camels. I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Last night, a child was born to Umm Sulaim. She did not consider it appropriate to give him tahneek herself and wished that you would do it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you have anything?" I said, "I have Ajwa dates." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a date, chewed it, softened it, collected his saliva, and put it in the child's mouth, which he began to suck. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Dates are beloved to the Ansar." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Name him." He said, "His name is Abdullah."
