It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was once praying at night in his chamber, some people came and joined the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shortened the prayer and went to his house. This happened several times until morning came. Then the people said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You were praying, we wished that you would have prolonged it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I was aware of your presence, but I deliberately did so."
