Abdu Khair, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once we performed the Fajr prayer with Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, and then sat with him. He asked for water for ablution, washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth twice with one handful, washed his face three times, washed both arms including the elbows three times, and washed both feet including the ankles three times, and said that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to perform ablution in this manner. Understand this well.
