Hadith 1196

Muhammad bin Ali says that once some people came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) with complaints about some governors appointed by Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). My father said to me, "Take this letter to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and tell him that people have come with complaints about your governors. The commands of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the collection of zakat are written in this letter. Please issue orders to your governors to collect zakat from the people accordingly." So I went to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and repeated the whole matter before him. The narrator says that if anyone wanted to mention Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) in an inappropriate manner, he would refer to that day.
