Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him and to his son Ali, "Both of you go to Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and listen to hadith from him." So both of us went. At that time, he was in one of his gardens. When he saw us, he picked up his sheet and came and sat with us and began narrating hadith. During the conversation, the topic of the construction of the mosque came up, so he said, "We used to bring one brick each, and Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to bring two bricks at a time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and began dusting the dirt off his head and said, 'Ammar! Why don't you bring one brick at a time like your companions?' He said, 'I am doing it with the intention of reward.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept dusting his head and kept saying, 'O son of Sumayyah! Alas, a rebellious group will kill you. You will call them to Paradise and they will call you to Hell.' Upon this, Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to say, 'I seek refuge with the Most Merciful from all kinds of tribulations.'"
