A man came to Hazrat Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Give me some advice." He replied, "You have requested the same thing that I requested from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I advise you to fear Allah, for it is the foundation of everything. Make jihad obligatory upon yourself, for it is the monasticism of Islam. And make the remembrance of Allah and the recitation of the Qur'an obligatory upon yourself, for the sky is your soul and the earth is your remembrance." It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting waiting for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)... Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith, and at the end said, "It seemed as if he had also heard this statement."
