Hadith 116

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عُمَرُ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْبٍ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : لَا وَأَبِي ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : " لَا تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ " ، فَالْتَفَتُّ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were on a journey with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man swore an oath saying: «لَاوَأَبِي» Then another man said to him: Do not swear by the names of your forefathers. When I looked, it was the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
