Hadith 11289

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُقَاتِلُ عَلَى تَأْوِيلِهِ كَمَا قَاتَلْتُ عَلَى تَنْزِيلِهِ " ، قَالَ : فَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ ، فَقَالَ : " لَا ، وَلَكِنْ خَاصِفُ النَّعْلِ " ، وَعَلِيٌّ يَخْصِفُ نَعْلَهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some of you will fight over the interpretation and explanation of the Qur'an just as I fought over its revelation. Upon this, Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) stood up, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, it is the one who is mending the sandal. And at that time, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was mending his sandal.
