Hadith 112

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ " ، قَالَ عُمَرُ : فَوَاللَّهِ مَا حَلَفْتُ بِهَا مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْهَا ، وَلَا تَكَلَّمْتُ بِهَا ذَاكِرًا وَلَا آثِرًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Allah forbids you from swearing oaths by the names of your forefathers. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Since I heard the prohibition of this from the tongue of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I have never sworn such an oath, nor have I mentioned it in conversation or quoted it from anyone.
