Hadith 11122

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held the flag in his blessed hand, shook it, and said, "Who will take it to fulfill its right?" A man stepped forward and presented himself, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him back. Then another came, and he too was sent back. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Him who has honored the person of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I will give this flag to the one who will never turn his back in flight. Ali! Come forward." Then Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) took the flag and set out, until Allah granted victory over Khaybar and Fadak at his hands, and he brought back the dates of Ajwah and Qadeed from there.
