Hadith 11084

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that after the conquest of Khaybar, we rushed towards this vegetable (garlic) and ate it abundantly, some people were on an empty stomach. When we reached the mosque, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sensed its smell. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever eats from this foul-smelling tree should not come near us in our mosques. Upon hearing this, people began to say that garlic has become forbidden. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said: O people! I have no authority to declare as forbidden what Allah has made lawful. However, I do not like the smell of this tree.
