(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِأَبَوَيْهِ ، وَهُمَا مُشْرِكَانِ ، فَقُلْتُ : تَسْتَغْفِرُ لِأَبَوَيْكَ وَهُمَا مُشْرِكَانِ ؟ فَقَالَ : أَلَيْسَ قَدْ اسْتَغْفَرَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَهُوَ مُشْرِكٌ ؟ قَالَ : فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَنَزَلَتْ : " مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ سورة التوبة آية 113 " ، إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَتَيْنِ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : " وَمَا كَانَ اسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لأَبِيهِ إِلا عَنْ مَوْعِدَةٍ وَعَدَهَا إِيَّاهُ سورة التوبة آية 114 " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard a man seeking forgiveness for his polytheist parents, so I said, "Are you seeking forgiveness for your polytheist parents?" He replied, "Did not Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) seek forgiveness for his polytheist father?" I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so this verse was revealed: «﴿مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ .....﴾ [التوبة : 113]» "It is not appropriate for the Prophet and the believers to seek forgiveness for the polytheists."
