حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , قََالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِكَثْرَةِ سُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ ، لَا تَسْأَلُونِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا أَخْبَرْتُكُمْ بِهِ " , فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حُذَافَةَ مَنْ أَبِي , يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَبُوكَ حُذَافَةُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ " , فَرَجَعَ إِلَى أُمِّهِ , فَقَالَتْ : وَيْحَكَ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى الَّذِي صَنَعْتَ , فَقَدْ كُنَّا أَهْلَ جَاهِلِيَّةٍ , وَأَهْلَ أَعْمَالٍ قَبِيحَةٍ , فَقَالَ لَهَا : إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأُحِبُّ أَنْ أَعْلَمَ مَنْ أَبِي , مَنْ كَانَ مِنَ النَّاسِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The people before you were destroyed only because of excessive questioning and differing with their prophets (peace be upon them). Therefore, do not ask me too many questions unless I myself tell you something. During this, Hazrat Abdullah bin Huzafah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Who is my father?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your father is Huzafah bin Qais." Hearing this, he went to his mother. She said, "What was the need for you to ask this question? We used to live in the age of ignorance and commit evil deeds." He said, "I wished to know who my father is and who is an ordinary man."
