(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو صَالِحٍ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيِّ ، قَالَ : ضَرَبَ عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ هَذَا الْمِنْبَرَ وَقَالَ : خَطَبَنَا عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ، وَذَكَرَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّ خَيْرَ النَّاسِ كَانَ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، ثُمَّ أَحْدَثْنَا بَعْدَهُمَا أَحْدَاثًا يَقْضِي اللَّهُ فِيهَا " .
One day, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon from the pulpit, praising and glorifying Allah, and said whatever Allah willed. Then he said: The best person in this Ummah after the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and after him was Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him). After that, we have invented things, in which Allah will do whatever He wills.
