Hadith 1045

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَبِيعَ غُلَامَيْنِ أَخَوَيْنِ ، فَبِعْتُهُمَا ، فَفَرَّقْتُ بَيْنَهُمَا ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَدْرِكْهُمَا فَارْتَجِعْهُمَا ، وَلَا تَبِعْهُمَا إِلَّا جَمِيعًا ، وَلَا تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنَهُمَا " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once ordered me to sell two slaves; they were brothers to each other. I sold them to two different men and then informed the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Go back and take them back, and sell both of them together to one man (so that they may have some closeness and companionship with each other)."
