Hadith 11
حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَلَمْ يَكُنْ مِمَّا أُنْزَلَ عَلَيْنَا «جَاهِدُوا كَمَا جَاهَدْتُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ» قَالَ: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَأَنَا لَا أَجِدُهَا، قَالَ: أُسْقِطَتْ مِمَّا أُسْقِطَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، قَالَ: نَخْشَى أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ كُفَّارًا، قَالَ: مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، قَالَ: لَئِنْ رَجَعَ النَّاسُ كُفَّارًا لَيَكُونَنَّ أُمَرَاؤُهُمْ بَنُو فُلَانٍ، وَوُزَرَاؤُهُمْ بَنُو فُلَانٍ.
Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him): Is this verse not among the verses revealed to us: «جاهدوا كما جاهدتم أول مرة» "Just as you strove in jihad before, so should you strive now." He replied: Yes, this is the verse. Umar said: But I did not find this verse in the Mushaf. He replied: This verse is among the abrogated verses of the Qur'an. Umar said: We fear that people may not become disbelievers. He replied: Whatever Allah wills will happen. Umar said: If people become disbelievers, then they will become the leaders of such-and-such tribe and the ministers of such-and-such tribe.
