Hadith 5
Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabi’ah narrated: He said that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) (driving the camels loudly with chants) during the journey to Makkah, so he entered Makkah with him during a part of the night. When morning came, he saw him wearing leather socks, so he said: You are wearing leather socks? He replied: I wore them in the presence of someone better than you, that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabi’ah and Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) turned the people back from “Sargh” because of the hadith of Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him). When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, the commanders of the armies returned to their duties.
