Hadith 8

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between him and Sa’d bin Rabi’ al-Ansari. Sa’d had two wives, so he offered that he would divide half of his household and wealth, but Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman said: May Allah bless you in your family and wealth, just show me the way to the market. He went to the market and earned much profit from cheese and ghee. After a few days, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and there were yellow marks on him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Abdur Rahman, what is the matter?” He replied: O Messenger of Allah! I have married a woman from among the Ansar. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “What did you give her as dowry?” He said: Gold equal to the weight of a date stone. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Give a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat.”
