Hadith 47

أَخْبَرَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ صَاحِبُ الْكَرَابِيسِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الثِّقَةُ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ، زَارَ مَرِيضًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم، قَالَ: فَقَالَ: أَذَكَرُ كَلَامًا، قَالَ: لَا تَقُولُوا هَكَذَا، وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا كَمَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم إِذَا عَادَ مَرِيضًا: «اللَّهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنْهُ مَا يَجِدُ وَآجِرْهُ فِيمَا ابْتَلَيْتَهُ».
A trustworthy narrator reported that Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) went to visit a sick person among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). (The narrator reported) He said: I mention a certain statement. He said: Do not say it like that, rather say it as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say supplicatory words when visiting a sick person: «اَللّٰهُمَّ اَذْهِبْ عَنْهُ مَا يَجِدُ وَآجِرْهُ فِيْمَا ابْتَلَيْتَهُ» "O Allah! Remove from him what (illness) he has and grant him deliverance from the trial in which You have placed him."
