Hadith 38

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَارِظٍ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ، دَخَلَ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ يَعُودُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ: وَصَلَتْكَ رَحِمٌ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم يَقُولُ: قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: أَنَا الرَّحْمَنُ وَهِيَ الرَّحِمُ شَقَقْتُ لَهَا اسْمًا مِنَ اسْمِي فَمَنْ وَصَلَهَا وَصَلْتُهُ، وَمَنْ قَطَعَهَا قَطَعْتُهُ أَوْ قَالَ: مَنْ يَبُتُّهَا أَبُتُّهُ ".
Abdullah bin Qariz narrates that he went to visit Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) during his illness. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "May the bond of kinship unite you." I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: I am 'Ar-Rahman' (the Most Merciful) and I have derived 'rahm' (the womb/ties of kinship) from My Name. Whoever joins it, I will join him, and whoever severs it, I will sever him." Or (he used these words) «مَن بَتَّهَا أَبَتُّهُ»
