Hadith 35

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ وَهُوَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ بَيْنَ الْقَبْرِ وَالْمِنْبَرِ: مَا أَدْرِي كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ فِيَ الْمَجُوسِ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ: «سُنُّوا بِهِمْ سُنَّةَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ».
Jafar narrates from his father Muhammad, he said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting in the place between the pulpit and the sacred grave and was saying: I do not know what to do with the Magians? Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Adopt the same method with them as you adopt with the People of the Book."
