Abu Salamah narrated that Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill, and Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) went to visit him. He (Abu Darda) said: "The best and most maintaining of ties of kinship, to my knowledge, is Abu Muhammad." Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: I am Allah and I am the Most Merciful (Ar-Rahman). I created the tie of kinship and derived its name from My Name. So whoever maintains it, I will maintain ties with him, and whoever severs it, I will sever ties with him.'"
