Abu Salamah narrated that his noble father, Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him), went to visit him during his illness. Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: “Among your people, no one maintains ties of kinship with me more than you do.” So Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, relating from his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, that the Lord Almighty said: ‘I am the Rahman (the Most Merciful), and I have derived the womb (rahm) from My Name. Whoever joins it, I will join him, and whoever severs it, I will sever him.’”
