It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), a man called out to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the mosque and asked, "Which clothes should a Muhrim not wear?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "A Muhrim should not wear a shirt, turban, cap, or trousers, nor should he wear socks unless shoes are not available. If shoes are not available, then he may wear socks, but he should cut them below the ankles. And he should not use any garment that has been touched with saffron or wars (fragrance)."
