It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: I was sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a young man came to him and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! May I come closer to you? So he (the Prophet) said: "Come closer." He (the young man) came so close that he placed his thigh upon the Prophet’s thigh and said: O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam? He (the Prophet) said: You bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His Messenger. The young man asked: If I do this, am I a Muslim? He (the Prophet) said: "Yes (you are a Muslim)." He asked: What is faith (iman)? So he (the Prophet) said: "You believe in good and bad destiny, you believe in Paradise and Hell, you believe in resurrection after death, and you believe in the (truth of the) scale (mizan)." He (the young man) said: If I do this, am I a believer? He (the Prophet) said: Yes.
