Hadith 4
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنِ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا إِلا كَلْبَ صَيْدٍ، أَوْ كَلْبَ مَاشِيَةٍ، أَوْ كَلْبَ مَخَافَةٍ، نَقَصَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطَانِ " . قِيلَ : يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، إِنَّا كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ : قِيرَاطٌ، قَالَ : سَمِعَ أُذُنَايَ، وَالَّذِي لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ : قِيرَاطَانِ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ : فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِنَافِعٍ، فَقَالَ : قَدْ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ، وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يَقُولُ : كَلْبَ مَخَافَةٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for hunting, or for herding animals, or a dog for frightening the enemy, then every day two qirats are reduced from his (good) deeds." (Abdullah bin Umar was) asked, Abu Abdur Rahman! We hear of one qirat, so he replied: By Him besides whom there is no one worthy of worship, my ears heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying two qirats. Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman, Ibn Abi Layla says: I mentioned this to Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him), so he said: I heard Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrating this hadith, but I did not hear the words "dog for frightening (the enemy)" from him.
